Workshop Description:

This foundational workshop is designed for emerging counselor supervisors who are eager to deepen their understanding and refine their supervision skills or more advanced supervisors who feel like they may have missed some of the basics. Participants will begin by defining the role and function of a supervisor. The workshop will then review the best ways to structure supervision sessions, focusing on setting clear expectations to maximize efficacy and foster professional growth. Participants will delve into the multifaceted roles and responsibilities that define effective supervision, examining how to balance support with accountability.

A key component of the workshop will be identifying the essential factors needed to create a healthy supervisory relationship, with special attention given to the dynamic nature of power, trust, and communication. This discussion will highlight the importance of these elements in creating an effective learning environment. The workshop will also cover the specific ethical standards and principles that govern the supervisory relationship and process, ensuring that participants understand the frameworks underpinning their professional responsibilities.

Practical application will be emphasized as participants learn to apply supervisory ethical codes in diverse supervisory scenarios, developing problem-solving skills to navigate ethical dilemmas. Finally, the workshop will address how to adapt supervisory approaches to meet the unique needs of supervisees, promoting reflective practice and facilitating their ongoing professional development. Whether transitioning into a supervisory role or looking to enhance your supervisory practice, this workshop provides the foundational knowledge and practical skills you need to succeed.
