Workshop Description:
This workshop is an introduction to some of the most common herbs taken for mental health concerns. We will discuss their benefits, cautions, and clinical examples. Additionally, your speakers will discuss the scope of practice and the ethics involved in the discussion of herbs with your clients as a mental health practitioner.
It is common for many mental health practitioners to be treating clients who are interested in or have tried various herbal remedies (for example, St. John’s Wort for depression, Chamomile tea for sleep, Rescue Remedy for anxiety, or Echinacea and Elderberry for immune system support). As mental health professionals we may hear about these herbal interventions, but we are certainly not trained in their effects. It can also be confusing for clinicians to navigate the integrative healthcare landscape with conflicting claims of evidence and safety. So, please join us for this fascinating and informative workshop, which is a collaboration between New Hampshire psychologist Vicki Anderson, PsyD, and clinical herbalist Maria Noël Groves, RH(AHG).
