Learning Objectives

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

• Describe culturally responsive supervision as a distinct competency area.
• Define decolonial supervision as an intersectional and culturally responsive model for clinician development.
• Apply the relevant professional Codes of Ethics in the areas of supervision, cultural competency, decolonial practice, and client care.
• Write collaborative supervision contracts that explore power differentials, cultural competency, and decolonial approaches toward clinician development.
• Analyze effective methods for approaching power sharing in supervision while maintaining ethical boundaries.
• Discuss how to provide culturally congruent and ethically sound feedback, remediation, disciplinary, and termination practices.

Workshop Description:

Do you feel equipped to establish a culturally healthy and intentional supervision practice that fosters a deeper connection between you and your supervisees, as well as between your supervisees and their clients? Dr. Ojelade is known for creating an enriching, profound experience in her workshops. If your intention is to become a better supervisor, you’ve come to the right place. It is particularly ideal for supervisors interested in understanding what it means to develop a decolonial, culturally relevant, and ethically sound approach to clinician development. We will explore issues of power differentials, intersectionality, and boundary setting and assist attendees with building the skills for developing impactful working relationships with their supervisees. Keeping in mind the life cycle of supervision, attendees will learn to intentionally develop collaborative supervision contracts, feedback, remediation, and termination practices.

Presented by: Ifetayo Ojelade, PhD

Dr. Ifetayo Ojelade (E-fay-tie-o | Oh-jay-lah-day) is a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, and an NBCC Approved Clinical Supervisor. She is the author of Let the Orisa Speak: Traditional Healing for Contemporary Times. This chapter was released in 2021 as part of the book Making Black Lives Matter: Confronting Anti-Black Racism. Dr. Ojelade is the founder and Executive Director of A Healing Paradigm, LLC, a holistic wellness center providing counseling, psychological testing, wellness, and educational programming for the entire family. As an expert on trauma recovery, Dr. Ojelade has an interest in helping women heal in order to take their careers and personal lives to the next level. She also works with healthcare, legal, and safety professionals to manage secondary trauma (e.g., compassion fatigue) in the workplace. She has a particular interest in Black Women leaders in these high-stress roles.
