Educational Objectives:

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Briefly review the ACT model of psychological flexibility
  • Discuss how to apply interventions from the ACT’s six psychological flexibility processes in the treatment of OCD
  • Briefly review the basic principles of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
  • Describe how ERP and ACT can be integrated throughout the course of treatment for OCD
  • Discuss how to integrate behavioral activation, positive psychology, and compassion focused techniques to enhance treatment outcomes for OCD
  • Discuss how to implement flexible process-based treatment planning to meet the unique needs of each client

Workshop Description:

Many of us have experienced clients “stalling out” in therapy. Clients with OCD can often seem stalled out in their exposures for a variety of reasons. Using an integrative approach for OCD treatment with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) can help you get your clients with OCD out of this rut and into values-based living. In this workshop, participants will learn how to integrate the ACT’s psychological flexibility processes with the tenants of ERP to keep client struggling with OCD (and really any anxiety disorder) moving forward in their treatment and towards what matters most in their life.

Please note that it is strongly recommended that you have a basic understanding of both ACT and ERP prior to taking this workshop as it is an advanced workshop where there will only be a slight review of both models. Please feel free to do the On Demand workshops for ACT and ERP prior to signing up for this workshop so you can jump right in without any confusion.
